The 26-year-old Edison mechanic killed while crossing Route 1 has been identified by police.
Robert W. “Robby” Peterson was walking eastbound in the crosswalk on Old Post Road across Route 1, near Popeyes, on Thursday, Aug. 21 at approximately 1:15 a.m., when the traffic signal changed from red to green, giving vehicles the right of way, Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan said.
Witnesses and the driver, identified as a South Amboy woman, told police Peterson appeared confused about which direction to move, shuffling back and forth in the northbound lane before being struck.

Sabrositos Hondurenos, LLC, based in Edison, New Jersey, is pulling back approximately 32,000 pounds of chorizo, pork chops, and ribs.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said the items were produced without required federal inspection but carried a false USDA mark, making them unsafe to eat.

Just before 4 a.m., troopers responded to the south outer roadway at milepost 84.6 in Edison, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan.
A GMC cargo van was traveling south on the outer roadway when a 39-year-old male from Bristol, PA, operating a Harley Davidson motorcycle, struck the GMC from behind, Marchan said.
